  • - What is the shroud?
NPR stands for Non Photorealistic Rendering. The task is to produce an image that is some kind of abstract view rather than a true-to-life photograph. We use genetic programming to evolve programs which make a series of brush strokes on a canvas. After a period of evolution the series of strokes comes to resemble a target image. We have three approaches, each based on a different kind of brush stroke.

    NPR - the shroud
Brush strokes are straight grey level lines that can be at any orientation. In many cases the rendered images have the ghostly quality evident in the shroud of Turin, hence the name.
